Susan Hansen - Interim President The Board of Directors of The Arc of Georgia is pleased to announce the appointment of Susan Hansen as Interim President effective July 1, 2008. Ms. Hansen will seek election at the annual meeting of The Arc of Georgia in September. Ms. Hansen is a resident of Atlanta, Georgia. She relocated from Indiana two years ago to take the position as CFO and Vice President of Finance for Marist School. Ms. Hansen obtained her BS from Indiana University‘s Kelly School of Business and is a Certified Public Accountant. She has been married to Michael for 29 years and has two children: Sean (22 with Autism) and Zach (15). Ms. Hansen previously was a long standing member of The Arc of Indiana. She chaired the Legislative Committee for eight years and served in various leadership roles in her home state including Treasurer. Ms. Hansen was also a key committee member for the Legislative Autism Commission for the State of Indiana. While serving as the CFO at Brebeuf Jesuit in Indianapolis, Ms. Hansen educated over 1,000 high school government students about the issues of the disabled. During her six years at Brebeuf, she led students in their efforts to write and promote state bills, and visit DC annually to lobby for the disabled. While living in Indiana, Ms. Hansen founded and ran a camp for individuals with Autism. This camp was an example of how to provide a nurturing environment and promote success among attendees. She served over 1,000 children with autism as well as 1,000 more volunteer buddies through this camp from 1996 to 2004. The camp was eventually given to three other organizations to carry on in various formats. Georgia is very fortunate to have inherited such a knowledgeable disability advocate. Indiana has a very strong, powerful state chapter of The Arc. Since Ms. Hansen has served on the board of The Arc of Georgia, she has brought a unique perception that is already leading The Arc of Georgia forward to a renewed sense of strength and advocacy. |
